RANDOM RIFF: blessings

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Blessings are strange things.

To describe something as a blessing has become so fluid that it’s hard to really grasp the concept of what it is.

For example, if someone randomly hands you $1000 in a time of financial need - you would consider that a blessing from God.

But, if someone beats you up on the street and steals $1000 from you - you could consider it a blessing that they didn’t do you any more harm.

Two totally different scenarios - same potential conclusion of it being a blessing from God.

My firm belief is that a blessing is less about the one off, extraordinary provisions from God and more about having the proper reactions to the common grace He gives us every day. Less about crazy happenstances and more about a consistent, Christ - honoring attitude.

Most things, aside from sin, can be seen as a blessing as long as we have the proper perspective. You can choose to recognize and receive blessings. You don’t have to wait for God to shock you to appreciate his goodness.
